WALL - New Jersey's oldest resident died Friday. Melva Cadmus Radcliffe was 111 years old.

"She had a wonderful life filled with I think a lot of happiness," according to John Campana, Jr. of Spring Lake, Melva's nephew.

Campana says his aunt was, "Full of life, loved. She was an art teacher plus taught third grade loved flowers, trees, nature itself. In fact everything to do with flowers. That's why for her memorial we chose everything to do with flowers because that was her."

The Paterson native taught art and music to elementary school students for 44 years. She never had children, but married twice, outliving both husbands.

Melva saw more than 40 countries and loved to travel. She survived colon cancer and two broken hips. She spent her final years at an assisted living facility in Wall Township where personnel say they loved her.

A memorial service for Melva will be held in Wyckoff this Friday where she'll be buried.
