EDISON - State transportation officials have plans to update New Jersey's 511 traffic information site, which was created in 2008 in hopes of keeping drivers informed.

Some of the improvements are real time info for drivers who are already on the road and an online interactive feature. The online feature, which should be available by the end of 2011, will allow drivers to search by county in order to see the driving conditions.

There will also be upgrades to the network of message signs that drivers are familiar with on the Turnpike and the Parkway. The plan, which will roll out by early 2012, will provide travel times for different sections of the interstate highways.

Those familiar with the plan have not said which interstates will see the improvements first, but said that there will be a pilot program on selected highways before it goes statewide.
