TRENTON - New Jersey has reported 127 cases of the Zika virus, an increase of 30 from nearly a month ago.

The state Health Department on Tuesday said all of the cases were travel-related.

Bergen County reported 25 Zika cases and Passaic County reported 21 cases. The two have the highest number of cases in the state.

Zika is primarily transmitted by certain types of tropical mosquitoes and can cause severe brain-related birth defects, including microcephaly (my-kroh-SEF'-uh-lee). The condition results in a baby's head being smaller than expected improper brain development.

The federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says states are reporting nearly 3,000 travel-related cases as of last week, as well as more than 40 locally acquired infections in Florida.
