OCEAN GROVE - The law enforcement community from all over New Jersey gathered Tuesday to honor officers who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The "Blue Mass" was held inside the Great Auditorium in Ocean Grove. Hundreds of officers joined together to remember five police officers who were killed in the line of duty within the year.

Many say it is a grim reminder of the dangers of the job.

"Sometimes people don't understand what we have to face day in and day out," says Neptune Police Sgt. Gregory Washington. "We work hard and it's good to recognize that through the state."

Gov. Chris Christie attended the Mass and spoke to the officers.

This was the 31st annual Law Enforcement Memorial Service in New Jersey.
