NEW BRUNSWICK - A New Brunswick police officer remains in stable condition after suffering serious injuries from being dragged by a car early Thursday.

The officer approached 24-year old Donell Cook in his car on Commercial Avenue at around 2:30 a.m., according to Police Director Anthony Caputo.

Cook, who was wanted on multiple warrants, drove off, dragging the officer nearly 50 feet until he hit a parked car.

The suspect then got out of the car and assaulted and attempted to disarm the officer. The injured officer successfully fought off the suspect despite multiple broken bones, abrasions and internal injuries.

Cook fled the scene on foot, but was quickly apprehended. Police say additional charges against Cook are pending.
