NEWARK - The New Jersey Nets claimed a victory over the Detroit Pistons during their season opener in Newark tonight.

News 12 New Jersey was courtside as the Nets beat the Pistons 101-98 during their first game at the Prudential Center, which will serve as the temporary home of the New Jersey Nets for the next two years.

Diehard Nets fans say they're hoping this season is better than last year, when the team set a franchise record for the fewest wins in a season. Some fans say that by hosting the team for two years, Newark may prove that they are ready for their own franchise.

Newark will also be in the spotlight in 2011 when it hosts the NBA draft.
