Neighbors: Mill collapse evacuations prompted burglaries (2/19/14)

PATERSON - Paterson residents living in homes near a vacant mill that collapsed last week are claiming their homes were burglarized while they were evacuated.

Fire officials ordered the evacuation of nearby homes after the mill's roof collapsed under the weight of heavy snow and ice.  Authorities were concerned that part of the building's wall would crash down onto the street.

Residents now say when they were finally allowed to return home, they found that their belongings were missing. Some reported that TVs and jewelry were taken.
