JERSEY CITY - A fire ripped through an apartment building in Jersey City Saturday afternoon, leaving nearly 25 displaced.
The incident occurred on Communipaw Avenue around 3:30 p.m. Five units inside the building were severely damaged.
Both Jersey City officials and tenants say the blaze started in the basement of the building.
No tenants were injured but one firefighter was injured by falling debris. He was taken to the hospital for an evaluation.
The two buildings on either side, which include a 99 cent store and a market, were evacuated but not damaged.
Jersey City fire officials told News 12 that the work is underway to find an exact cause of how the fire started.
