Near record number of guns taken off Newark streets

NEWARK - Newark police say the program they launched over a month ago meant to seize illegal weapons off the streets has proven very successful.

A near record number of weapons have been taken off the streets as a result of the program, officials say.

However, some Newark residents say they are skeptical of the success of the program.

"Sixty-four guns sounds great, but at end of day, how many more guns did you not get?" says Mustahim Camel.

Police admit they may never get all illegal guns off the streets, but every gun they do get is a chance one less person is shot.
