OAKLAND - Bergen County will pay $2 million to the family of a college student left disabled by a car crash on Breakneck Road in Oakland.

The 2006 crash left college student James Griffin disabled and unable to walk or speak.

Griffin was driving on Breakneck Road when his car hit a pool of water and hydroplaned. He struck an SUV head-on.

Griffin's attorney argued that the county failed to properly maintain the draining system along the road, contributing to the devastating crash.

Neighbors in the area said the road would fill with water every time it rains.
