BAYONNE - A massive multialarm fire badly damaged several Bayonne apartments and a restaurant.

The fire started around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at the building on the 700 block of Broadway. It is believed that the fire started on the third floor.

Fire departments from several nearby towns responded to help fight the blaze.

Employees of a restaurant located on the first floor of the building tell News 12 New Jersey that they smelled smoke and quickly evacuated.

No one was injured, but firefighters were seen rescuing pets from the fire and reuniting them with their owners.

At least 12 families were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross responded to the scene to assist those who were displaced.
