MOUNT OLIVE - With mercury climbing into the 90s, Animal Control officers in Mount Olive are making sure that drivers aren't leaving their pets unattended in a hot car.

Animal Control Officer Willie Cirone says when he's on patrol, he's looking for cars with windows slightly cracked, or windows smeared by a dog that may have been inside.

Leaving a pet alone in a hot car is against state law. Offenders can face a $250 to $1,000 fine.
