BRIDGEWATER - New Jersey's Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC) says changes being made to handicapped parking tag procedures are aimed at preventing unauthorized use.

By the end of the summer, the MVC says disabled motorists will have to renew their tags every three years and have to carry an identification card that proves they own the tag. The new tags will also display an expiration date.

At the Bridgewater Commons mall, police say they catch hundreds of drivers parking illegally each year.

According to the MVC, there are half a million disabled drivers in New Jersey.
