PLAINFIELD - The son of a Plainfield interior designer found dead inside her home has been charged in her murder.

Prosecutors say the body of Gail Vandewalle, 69, was found Sunday under a blanket inside her home on Watson Street. Vandewalle's son, 44-year old John Quakenbush, who lived with her, was arrested Monday at a motel in Green Brook.

He is currently being held at the Union County Jail on $1 million bail.

Vandewalle was a room design consultant for Ethan Allen furniture store in Watchung. Investigators say police got a call from someone who said they had not seen her since Feb. 19. When police arrived they discovered her body.

Her cause of death is pending the results of an autopsy.
