Mother defends woman accused of abusing dog

NEWARK - A Newark mother is defending her daughter against animal abuse and neglect charges after her dog was thrown down the garbage chute of a high-rise building nearly two week ago.

Tammie Curtis says her daughter Kisha Curtis, 27, did not harm the pit bull mix, Patrick, because she was out of state when the dog was found.

Kisha Curits was charged after admitting she tied up her dog and left him while she went to Albany. Curtis appeared in Wayne Municipal Court via teleconference today due to an outstanding warrant for shoplifting.

Tammie Curtis told News 12 New Jersey that the trash chutes at Garden Spires Apartments are too small and her daughter too is kind to dispose of a dog that way.

Kisha is being held in the Passaic County Jail, but the New Jersey SPCA says she'll be taken to Essex County to face the abuse charges.
