TRENTON - An investigation in Trenton is under way after a mother and her young daughter are injured during a shootout in the city.

The exchange happened last night near the corner of Calhoun and Passaic streets. Officials say two vehicles were exchanging gunfire when the victims were hit.

Authorities say the woman was shot in the back and the 3-year-old in the arm. Both were taken to nearby hospitals where they are listed in stable condition.

Police say they don't believe the victims were the intended targets in the shooting.
