EWING - Two children are in protective custody after they were found living in a storage unit in Ewing.

Police say they arrested Sheena Johnson, 27, for slashing her ex-boyfriend's tires in Trenton. Johnson then confessed to police that her two sons, ages 5 and 10, were in a unit at Extra Space Storage on Prospect Street.

Detective Sgt. John Stemler says the boys were not locked inside and appeared to be clean and uninjured.

Detectives say the family had been living in the storage trailer for well over a month and that Johnson would periodically take the boys out to wash up. The boys also went to school, making the locker effectively their home.

Johnson faces two counts of child endangerment for the living conditions. Police say Johnson's bail and court dates have not been scheduled yet.
