EDISON - Hunters have killed more than 300 bears during New Jersey's expanded black bear hunt.

State officials say at least 33 bears were killed Wednesday, the third day of the hunt.

There were 100 killed by arrows on Tuesday and 206 were killed on Monday. Most were in Sussex County.

The first three days of the expanded bear hunt are reserved for bow hunting, while hunting with bows and muzzle-loading guns will be allowed during the last three days.

There were 510 bears killed during last year's hunt, which was the second-highest number since the hunt re-started in 2010.

State officials say the extended hunt was added because of increased human and bear interaction.

The firearm-only season for bear hunting this year will take place from Dec. 5-10.

The Associated Press wire services contributed to this report.
