More than 1,800 fines issued to drivers of snow-covered vehicles

EDISON - More than 1,800 tickets were reportedly issued by the end of last month across the Garden State for drivers who failed to clear snow and ice from their vehicles before hitting the road.

The state Department of Transportation posted electronic signs on several state roadways promoting the new law requiring drivers to make a reasonable effort to remove snow and ice from their vehicles.

Fines for failing to clean snow or ice off vehicles range from $25 to $75, but can go from $200 to $1,000 if damage is caused to vehicles or injuries to other people.
