More shore towns banning sales of cats and dogs

MANASQUAN - More shore towns are joining the pet-friendly trend of banning the sales of cats and dogs in pet stores.

The Manasquan Borough Council recently voted to ban the sale of cats and dogs 6-0.

They join Point Pleasant Beach and Brick, which both have similar bans in place.

The ban is aimed at curbing puppy mills and backyard breeding of unhealthy animals and instead promoting pet adoptions at animal shelters.

Manasquan's ordinance does permit breeding as long as the breeders are certified by the American Kennel Club.
