Montclair approves medical marijuana dispensary

MONTCLAIR - A New Jersey medical marijuana dispensary has approval to open in Montclair but is still awaiting the final go-ahead from the state.

The Greenleaf Compassion Center announced yesterday that it had received zoning approval about two weeks ago. It is the second dispensary that has made public a location that has local government approval.

In March, the state approved six nonprofit organizations to operate the clinics to sell marijuana to patients with certain medical conditions such as glaucoma and terminal cancer.

The final permits have not been issued. The state has said it intends for the clinics to open early in 2012.

The chief executive officer of the dispensary says once approved it would take about four months to grow marijuana and prep it for patients.
