MONMOUTH - Voluntary watering restrictions have been put into place in Monmouth County.

New Jersey American Water is asking customers to adopt an odd/even watering schedule to avoid having to place strict restrictions during the summer.

Home addresses with odd numbers should their water lawns on the odd days. Even-numbered homes should water lawns on the even days.

The water company says the heat has not been a factor in the water restrictions. The company says the booming population of Monmouth County has strained the system.
