Mom, young son injured in Clifton house fire

CLIFTON - (AP) - A mother and her young son werehospitalized with smoke inhalation after a fast-moving fire roaredthrough a relative's home in northern New Jersey.

Ten-year-old Jacob Weatherbee was pulled from the burning homein Clifton by emergency responders shortly after they arrivedaround 2 a.m. Sunday. His 47-year-old mother, Veronica, and13-year-old brother, Matthew, tried to find him as they fled butcouldn't locate him due to the heavy smoke.

Veronica Weatherbee was being treated at St. Joseph's RegionalMedical Center in Paterson, while Jacob Weatherbee was at St.Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. Further details weren'tdisclosed.

The home is owned by Veronica Weatherbee's mother, NinaDeVincentis.

DeVincentis told The Record newspaper that an electric blanketsparked a couch fire. But authorities say the cause remains underinvestigation.
