PISCATAWAY - Over 100 mothers of sick or disabled children were able to meet the women they have been depending on for help.
They have all called the Mom 2 Mom helpline to be paired with a peer counselor who offers advice on the issues and challenges of raising children with special needs.
The Mom 2 Mom hotline is run by Rutgers University Behavioral Health Care. Most of the staff are mothers themselves.
“There are 25 mothers working on the phones who are constantly doing support groups and listening to mothers who are talking about their challenges” says Cherie Castellano, of Rutgers Behavioral Health Care.
The event held Wednesday gave the moms a chance to meet and thank their counselors for all the advice.
“She was there for me to help me and support me in so many ways,” said mom Gloria Jurado about her counselor, Amy Tarabokia.
More information about the helpline can be found at the group’s website.
