NEW BRUNSWICK - (AP) - Rutgers University officials say a 17-year-old student who went missing Thursday has turned up unharmed.

E.J. Miranda, a school spokesman, says Shahan Akhter of SouthBrunswick approached a Rutgers police officer on the school's NewBrunswick campus around 12:30 a.m. Sunday and asked for help.

Akhter was not injured but was taken to an area hospital forobservation, Miranda said. He declined to disclose any specificdetails about Akhter's disappearance, citing his age and hisfamily's request for privacy.

Akhter's parents had reported the commuter student missing afterhe failed to return home Thursday. His car was later found oncampus, and family members expressed concern for his safety.
