LAKEHURST - Families of the 200 soldiers of the 77th Sustainment Brigade gathered at Fort Dix Sunday to say farewell as they head off to Iraq for a year.

The troops will deploy on Tuesday to help train Iraqi forces in supply and support operations.

"I'm overwhelmed," said 11-year-old Julie Meza. "Don't want him to go but he has to." Both her father and uncle are being deployed.

"Soldiers never say goodbye. We reserve that for those who make the ultimate sacrifice. Instead we say farewell," said Carlos Meza, one of the soldiers deploying.
