RIDGEFIELD - A 20-year-old man is dead and two others are injured after a car hit a building in Ridgefield.

The crash happened at approximately 1:30 a.m. Thursday at the intersection of Broad Avenue and Edgewater Road.

Bergen County Prosecutor John Molinelli says a 2014 Honda Civic driven by Tamer Ammar was traveling north on Broad Avenue, when the driver lost control of the car and crossed into the southbound lane and then struck the building.

Ammar and his two passengers, Miles Reme and James Racanelli, both 20 years old, were seriously injured in the crash. All were taken to area hospitals.  Reme, the front-seat passenger, was pronounced dead a short time later.

Police say Ammar drove on a sidewalk, struck two bus stop sign posts and crossed a median before striking the building head-on.

Ammar remains in very serious condition at St. Joseph's Medical Center in Paterson, New Jersey. Racanelli is in serious condition at Hackensack University Medical Center.

The prosecutor has not announced any charges in the case.

The accident investigation caused heavy delays along Routes 1 and 9 near the Ridgefield Circle.
