SEASIDE HEIGHTS - A Toms River man has been arrested for allegedly robbing and stabbing a man in Seaside Heights early Wednesday morning.

Ocean County Prosecutor Joseph D. Coronato says Michael Eddy Jr., 20, has been charged with attempted murder, robbery by force, and burglary.

Police say they were called to Franklin Avenue just before 5 a.m. on a report of a disturbance. Officers found the victim, Jeffery Coward, 40, in the living room of an apartment suffering from multiple stab wounds.

Investigators say the suspect and the victim were visiting tenants at an apartment. The victim had fallen asleep on a couch, when Eddy, who had left the home, allegedly returned with the intention of robbing the victim.

During the struggle, Coward was reportedly stabbed repeatedly. Eddy is believed to have fled on foot.

Officers began searching the area for the suspect and say they found Eddy in a yard several houses down on the same street with a tactical folding knife laying next to him. Eddy was taken into custody and questioned.

Coward was taken to Jersey Shore Medical Center in critical condition.

Eddy is currently being held in Ocean County Jail on $250,000 bail.
