Metuchen postal worker honored

METUCHEN - A Metuchen postal worker was honored this morning after saving a senior citizen's life in May.

Joe Padilla noticed mail piling up at an elderly customer's mailbox, so he alerted a neighbor and the two went to check in on the senior. "When I saw the mail piling up, even for more than one day, I knew something was wrong," said Padilla today.

The two good Samaritans discovered the elderly woman had fallen in her backyard and could not get up.

The woman died several weeks later, but her grandson says had it not been for Padilla, she would've suffered and died in her own backyard.

Padilla was honored at a recognition ceremony this morning at the Metuchen Post Office.
