Mets' Rodriguez is facing more charges

NEW YORK - (AP) - Mets closer Francisco Rodriguez faces morecharges in his New York City assault case.

Authorities said in court Tuesday that Rodriguez violated anorder of protection by sending his girlfriend 56 text messagesapologizing and urging a resolution. They said he'll now be chargedwith criminal contempt.

Rodriguez is accused of attacking his girlfriend's fatheroutside a family lounge at Citi Field.

He was arrested after the Mets lost to Colorado on Aug. 11.

He tore a ligament in the thumb of his pitching hand during thealtercation and required surgery. He was placed on the disqualifiedlist. The team says he wouldn't be paid until he's off.

Prosecutors say the four-time All-Star was angry after the lossand took it out on his family.
