Mercury rises in New Jersey's urban areas

PATERSON - News 12 New Jersey Meteorologist Dave Curren says New Jersey is in the makings of a heat wave, as the mercury rises across the state.

People in urban areas are expected to feel the heat more than anywhere else with the tall buildings, concrete and asphalt trapping the heat at ground level.

Today in Paterson, some people were attempting to beat the heat with ice pops, a popular way to beat the heat, along with sipping cold drinks.

At Paterson Animal Control, hoses were being used to cool dogs off. Officer John DeCando says he recommends bringing pets indoors where there is air conditioning, but if they have to be outside, water is a must.
