EWING - Fewer police on the road in Mercer County may mean more room for speeders.

A tight budget in Ewing means police jobs are on the line. With fewer cops, it means that there are fewer people to enforce traffic laws. Some local drivers say that it's already dangerous, even without police cuts.

A layoff plan in the works for months to remove half a dozen officers is coinciding with a sharp decline in tickets for violations such as speeding and parking.

Mayor Jack Ball says negotiations with the police union could save some of the jobs.
