TOMS RIVER - Friends and family are remembering a teen killed in a weekend crash that also left his best friend in critical condition.

A makeshift memorial for 19-year-old Francis Duddy stands at the end of the cul-de-sac on Yellowbank Road where the Honda Civic crashed into some trees early Saturday morning.

Police say the driver Connor Hanfin, 18, appears to have gone through a stop sign about a half-block away and never slowed down when approaching the wooded area.

"It's one of those things that shouldn't happen, but they do happen," says Toms River Mayor Tom Kelaher. "The whole town is upset by it.  We can just remember them in our prayers.  There's not much else you can do."

Both teenagers graduated from Monsignor Donovan High School last year. Crisis counselors were on hand there today to help console students about the loss.
