Meeting held to discuss Hoboken noise

HOBOKEN - Hoboken residents say the noise is just too much. Tonight a meeting was held to address the issue.

There have been numerous complaints from the public about late-night revelers cranking up the decibels in a city that's a victim of its own success with popular bars, restaurants and all the nightlife noise that comes with it.

People at the meeting said the noise usually starts at around 10 p.m. and continues throughout the night. They complained that the city's noise ordinance should be enforced, especially when the noise continues until 4 a.m.

Hoboken Mayor Dawn Zimmer says, "I think it's an important quality of life issue. Hoboken's a great place, we welcome everyone, but it's also a balancing act."

The city says it plans to set up noise meters at key times of the day for the next two weeks. Officials will also set up one complaint line for all noise issues.

After data from the noise meters is collected, it will be examined at another meeting.
