Medical marijuana facilities concern law enforcement officials

MANALAPAN - Residents are concerned that the proposed medical marijuana facility off of Route 33 in Manalapan could attract the wrong crowd.

Manalapan resident Ellen Frank worries a medical marijuana distribution center here off of Route 33 could attract criminals.

Police Captain Christopher Marsala agrees, saying that medical marijuana plants are an easy target for criminals.

Breakwater Alternative Treatment Center of Ocean was awarded the contract by the state after meeting with township officials last month to discuss the proposal of distributing the drug in the municipality.

Police also got a copy of the security plan, which they forwarded to the DEA for review.

Manalapan's health officer says he and other township officials welcome the facility, which he says will be run like a pharmacy.
