SEA BRIGHT - One of the Jersey Shore's most famous restaurants plans to rebuild and reopen following Superstorm Sandy.

McLoone's Rum Runner has been closed ever since the storm ravaged the Jersey Shore in 2012.

This week, the restaurant finally received city approval for rebuilding. Owner Tim McLoone tells News 12 New Jersey he thought the restaurant might never reopen.

"When we realized the building itself was not salvageable, that we had to start from scratch, that seemed really intimidating," McLoone said.

McLoone says he knows it’s a risk to re-invest in a community still struggling to rebuild homes washed away by Sandy.  However, he believes the new building, set along the river, will bring crowds back again.

Construction will begin this summer, with hopes to open in 2015.
