LYNDHURST - A Lyndhurst landmark has closed after nearly 100 years in business.

Mazur's Bakery opened in 1937 and has been one of the town's favorite places to go for breads and pastries.

At the beginning of September, the Bergen County Health Department asked the bakery to close temporarily to address health code violations.

Officials say they saw rodents, cats and insects inside the shop. A notice on the door says the owners have decided to permanently close down.

"Very sad to see it go. It's been here for so many years," says former customer Adele Sicone. "It's like an institution in the town. And it was a very good bakery."

The Mazur family, which opened the bakery, sold it to another family many years ago.

The current owners say they decided to close because of deteriorating building conditions and rising costs.
