Mayor: Part of Seaside Heights boardwalk to reopen in time for summer after devastating fire
SEASIDE HEIGHTS - Another portion of the Seaside Heights boardwalk will be completed by the summer season, according to Mayor Bill Akers.
The mayor says the one-block stretch from DuPont Avenue to Porter Avenue will be rebuilt by the property owner Belle-Freeman.
Akers says he has been told that there will be temporary businesses placed on the stretch, which was destroyed by fire in September.
"The stands will be temporary in nature, not permanent," Akers says. "We give them leeway to open businesses. There will be things there this year."
The remaining portion of the boardwalk in need of rebuilding is owned by a separate corporation.
A decision about the long-term redevelopment of the entire boardwalk has not been made.
