NEWARK - There was a sign of progress tonight in Brick City as News 12 New Jersey monitored how Burnet Street was dug out.
Newark Mayor Cory Booker says 90-percent of the city has now been plowed after residents complained about how it handled an emergency. Along Burnet Street, neighbors say they waited a long time for snowplows to show up.
The street, which leads directly to the emergency room at St. Michael's Medical Center, is now clear for ambulances. Residents say they are also happy to be able to get into their cars.
Booker said that the biggest cause of the city's problems is that many people abandoned cars, which prevented plows from getting through. He has been continually tweeting about his efforts to dig out Newark residents.
