Massive Jersey City fire spreads fumes across region

JERSEY CITY - A massive fire at a metal recycling plant in Jersey City caused effects across the region last night.

Firefighters say the blaze started around 11 p.m. and grew to a four-alarm fire, sending flames and smoke high into the sky.

The smoke was so strong that the smell carried across the Hudson River into Manhattan, Brooklyn and even far into Long Island.

Firefighters battled the fire for over 13 hours before getting it under control.

No injuries were reported because of the blaze and firefighters say they don?t believe the fire to be suspicious.
