UNION TOWNSHIP - Authorities say a fast-moving fire that severely damaged all 18 units at a Hunterdon County condominium complex last weekend is not considered suspicious.

No injuries were reported in Saturday night's fire at the Union Gap Village complex in Union Township, which burned for several hours and displaced numerous residents.

Hunterdon County Prosecutor Anthony Kearns III announced yesterday that the fire apparently originated in the area of a bush in front of the building. While the cause of the fire remains undetermined, he said investigators could not rule out the cause being associated with a discarded cigarette.

Kearns also said strong, gusty winds appeared to have contributed to the multi-alarm fire's "quick spread."

Firefighters from Hunterdon, Somerset and Warren counties were called in to help fight the blaze.
