Massive American flag ‘raised’ in Ridgefield Park

The Fourth of July holiday was kicked off in a big way Wednesday morning in Ridgefield Park.

RIDGEFIELD PARK - The Fourth of July holiday was kicked off in a big way Wednesday morning in Ridgefield Park.

A massive, free-flying American flag was “raised” to honor America for Independence Day.

The event was part of the QuickChek New Jersey Festival of Ballooning.

The flag is 53 feet tall, 78 feet wide and weighs over 500 pounds. Organizers say the balloon can hold 700,000 3 by 5 foot American flags. 

The event was held at Overpeck County Park.
