OCEAN GROVE - Mary's Place in Ocean Grove is expanding to a new and bigger home so that it no longer has to turn women away.

The current facility, which sits just off the beach, provides care and rest to women with cancer.

For the last three years, the organization called a six-room house on Broadway home. Now it's moving to a property along Main Street with plans to break ground on a 10-room facility in August and hopes to open in 2015.

Operators are excited about the move. "We are backlogged now," says Michele Gannon. "There's a waiting list and it hurts to turn people away, or say we can't take them today, we'll see you in another week."

"We are not a medical facility and I think a respite is so important," says Maria McKeon. "While the new property has been purchased, there is now a pledge drive in place in search of $2 million to help pay for the new home."

Since opening in 2009, 3,000 women have been cared for at Mary's Place.
