Marine from Ocean County killed in Afghanistan

MANCHESTER - A Marine from Ocean County was killed while conducting combat operations in Afghanistan.

The Department of Defense says 23-year-old Cpl. Nicholas Ott, of Manchester, died Wednesday in Helmand province.

Ott joined the Marine Corps in 2007 and was assigned to 1st Battalion, 3rd Marine Regiment, 3rd Marine Division in Hawaii in 2010.

His death comes days after an Army Ranger from Pitman was killed in action in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Alessandro Plutino was a rifle team leader on his third tour in Afghanistan.
