PATERSON - Paterson firefighters got more than they bargained for when they went to battle a fire on East 18th Street.

Firefighters say they had to turn the scene over to police after they discovered as many as 10 marijuana plants in the home.

Crews say the fire started in the basement and was contained to that part of the house. The plants were found on the second floor, where there was some smoke damage.
