Maple Shade denies medical marijuana dispensary

MAPLE SHADE - The Maple Shade zoning board has blocked a medical marijuana dispensary from opening at its proposed location.

Compassionate Sciences Alternative Treatment Center made its pitch last night to the board. The treatment center is one of six in New Jersey awarded a license to sell marijuana to patients.

Zoning board officials made the case that its facility would be a permissible use in a business zone along Route 73, not far from Exit 4 of the New Jersey Turnpike. Several opponents attended the meeting to try to keep the dispensary out of the Burlington County community.

Board members say it would be better to have the facility close to a hospital.
