EDISON - Many people around New Jersey spent their day sliding across sidewalks and trying their best to stay upright.

News 12 New Jersey reporter Marci Rubin calls the technique that comes in handy for walking today the "Garden State Shuffle," which consists of taking small, slow steps.

In South Orange, the streets were looking good, but the sidewalks were icy. One woman from nearby Maplewood that News 12 New Jersey spoke with said she digs her heels into the slush to get around in slippery conditions.

With the pending deep freeze tonight, residents around New Jersey are being warned to be extra cautious.
