Many NJ municipalities say 'no' to parking on snow-covered streets

HOWELL TOWNSHIP - When snow falls, Howell Township and other municipalities across New Jersey forbid parking on the street.

In Howell Township, about 150 people were ticketed two weeks ago for parking on the street following the blizzard.

The township passed an ordinance less than a year ago prohibiting parking on the street during snow so plows could get through. The last blizzard was the first time since the ordinance was passed that Howell had snow.

Residents have also been asked to appear in court, where they'll have to pay a $33 court fee on top of a $150 fine.

The township says it placed automated calls to residents before it started snowing as a reminder.
