Manasquan River recedes after flooding

HOWELL - Flooding of the Manasquan River caused by last weekend's storm has receded.

The river began to rise Sunday at around 7 p.m. and had flooded within 20 minutes, leaving the neighborhood under about a foot and a half of water.

The Route 9 bridge over the river was open for today's rush hour. The bridge was closed yesterday to inspect possible damage caused by the flooding.

Ten houses surrounding the river suffered damage to their first floors. A nearby bridge on Allenwood-Lakewood Road had also been closed due to rising water from the Manasquan River.
