Man who escaped police custody captured in CT

FORT LEE - Authorities say a New York City man who escaped from police custody in Fort Lee has been captured in Connecticut.

Connecticut State Police officials say Jose Rodriguez was taken into custody by a U.S. Marshal's Service task force at the Mictrotel Inns & Suites in Uncasville, Conn., around 3:30 a.m. today.

Authorities said the 26-year-old was handcuffed, but managed to drive off using his knees to steer an unmarked police vehicle after he was apprehended yesterday.

The Bronx resident was wanted on a parole violation and drunken driving charge. He was also a suspect in a nonfatal shooting this month in the Bronx.

The escape caused a 25-minute lockdown of several schools in the area.
